According to the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the governing body overseeing the GMAT, it is revealed that the average total score achieved by test takers is approximately 560. Notably, this entire score is derived exclusively from the combined results of the verbal and quantitative sections. The verbal and quantitative areas, each assessed on a scale of 0 to 60, exhibit their distinct scoring. Remarkably, the average scores in these sections rest at approximately 27 and 40, respectively. Testers also obtain a score of 1-8 for the integrated reasoning section, where the scores are given in a one-point uptick.

Furthermore, they receive a score of 0 to 6 for the analytical writing section, with scores being awarded in half-point gains. The integrated reasoning score slightly exceeds a 4 on average, while the mean analytical writing score is approximately 4.5. Highly selective business programs require GMAT scores that are significantly higher than the average, particularly in terms of the overall score and the individual sections contributing to that score. The latest class at Harvard Business School achieved median scores of 41 verbal, 48 quantitative, and 730 in total. It is worth noting that graduate business programs ranked within the top 50 consistently maintain average GMAT total scores ranging from 650 to 700. The majority of students have the potential to achieve impressive GMAT scores if they dedicate sufficient time and energy to their GMAT studies and receive guidance from top-notch GMAT instructors.

I took the GMAT this past weekend in Manhattan and got a 680. I'm quite happy with the score - a bit frustrated as I wanted a 700, but still pleased. The course was helpful. The best part I feel was the time spent drilling - and answering our questions on specific problems.
